New Moon in Cancer July 2008, Awaken the Miracle Worker Within

by Crystal Pomeroy

Cancer New Moons invite us to begin a new cycle in emotions. The Sabian symbol for the degree of the present portal shows a special opportunity to nurture the Christ within, and with it to transform reality.

A Chinese woman nursing a baby whose aura reveals him to be the reincarnation of a great teacher. The revelation of latent worth in an experience once it is seen in its deeper meaning. We look beyond common experiences and discover the “occult” (i.e., hidden) character of every person and every experience… every [wo]man is potentially the avatar… to discover this occult dimension or being… requires a deeper or higher “vision”.

Effective prayer does exactly this, allowing us to see beyond common perception and focus on the good that’s latent in all people and experiences. It is not merely an intellectual exercise, but rather an insistence—through repetition—to gaze above our fear and judgmentalism, as we choose the highest and the best viewpoint. Such an apparently simple exercise directs the power of our creative attention above and beyond appearances, connecting it to Omnipresent Spirit. As we nurture this energy pattern in our own minds, we invite supernatural good to express its victory in people and conditions.

In her lovely book, The Game of Life, Florence Scovel Shinn shares a prayer that exemplifies this distinction. “I baptize (name of person or situation) as successful in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Some readers may find the religious tone of this sentence anachronistic, expressing as it does Shinn’s chronological context of the early 1900’s. The concept, however, is timeless, and has served to inform more than one well known contemporary writer. I have an adaptation that says:

Omnipotent Good is present in (name of person or situation), and no influence or condition can limit Its success. I baptize (name of person or situation) as a complete success, in the Name of the One Presence and the One Power.

Who do you know that appears to be something of a loser or otherwise limited in the eyes of the world? Take a moment to adapt the above affirmations and repeat them with that person in mind. Can you feel the difference? Situations that cause us fear or anxiety can be treated in a similar fashion. For example:

God is present in the California firefighters and their efforts, and no influence or condition can limit divine success. I baptize the firefighting efforts as successful in the Name of the One Presence and the One Power.

God is present in California and its ecosystems, and no influence or condition can limit divine success. I baptize California and its ecosystems as successful in the Name of the One Presence and the One Power.

When we remember the Presence and Power of Spirit at work in people and situations, we begin to understand a Truth beyond appearances, opening a channel through which its power can come forth, manifesting miracles. A bit further on, you’ll find more ways to integrate this awareness into your daily consciousness, nurturing the Christ in you, and in all people and situations, during the cycle begun by this New Moon in Cancer.

Prayerful Altar-ations

  • A white and/or silver candle
  • White flowers, especially roses
  • Moonstone, emeralds, opals or black onyx
  • Incense, especially myrrh, sandalwood or lotus
  • A glass of water (glass is also ruled by Cancer)

Light your incense, saying something like:

This is an offering for the angels of Emotional Renovation and of Consciousness of Good. I invite them to accompany the cycle I now begin and also share with other beings who are ready for and receptive to a quantum leap in consciousness of Divine Good.

Light your candles, saying something like:

My awareness of the power of my attention and emotions now comes to light, filling my mind and this space with Omnipresent Good.

During ten minutes, repeat the following words and whatever compatible ideas come to you.

I disconnect my attention from appearances and behold the Presence of Spirit in people and situations. No circumstance or condition can limit the perfect action of Omnipresent Good. I baptize myself, others and all situations as a complete success in the Name of the Divine Power that abides in all.

Symbols, signs and stars can be interpreted on many levels. Like any extraneous forces, they can influence us, and we can also influence them. Perhaps the highest promise of this New Moon in Cancer is the chance to co-create a better world as we pay homage to the messiah within alluded to by the Sabian symbol. We can nurture her or him the by first assuming our supernatural power of perception to then focus it persistently on the Omnipotent Good, that often hidden force that even now awaits our recognition to manifest through all people and situations. May your field of influence become radiant and your awareness grow full and disseminate along with Luna, as you nurse them with thoughts like those above daily throughout her cycle now beginning.
